Six time NZ PBA team member Ken Walker was in similar resurgent form in Dunedin reaching both finals at the Westpac Community Stadium to play the same opponent. The International Singles qualifier was completed on Saturday night with Walker overcoming 23-year old Oliver Mason in a thriller and the two worked their way through the big Dunedin field to earn themselves a rematch in their House of Travel ranking singles event to played Saturday 19th August at 1pm.

Current NZ PBA international Craig Merrilees cemented his spot in next year’s team winning his second qualifier of the year in Invercargill beating Brent Thomson in the final with a double-bagle keeping his opponent scoreless in a flawless display.

The favourites did not fare so well in Hastings or New Plymouth. NZ number one Murray Glassey was upset in the first game of the day losing to Wairarapa’s Scott Mackenzie throwing the door wide open with more upsets following throughout the day. The final saw Terry Johnson (Manawatu) turn the clock back ten years winning the Hastings International Singles qualifier over Shoota Ballinger (Kapiti Coast). And the previously dominant Stephen Zino also lost early in New Plymouth, opening up the draw for locals John Roberts to beat Ian Andrews in the final. Roberts plans to honour a previous commitment on Finals Weekend so handing the qualification spot to Andrews.

NZ PBA Finals Weekend will be hosted at the new Naenae Complex in Wellington 8-10 September. The Scotty’s Meats NZ PBA team have now flown to the Deer Park Bowls Club in Melbourne to take on the Australian PBA this week.
