Centre Fours – last day
Johnsonville went into the last day of the Centre Fours with three women’s teams in the semi-finals and three men’s in the quarters.
On the women’s side, Kaaren’s Four met Paula’s on one side of the draw and, on the other, the four skipped by June Wairau met the Naenae four skipped by Lisa White. There were hopes for an all-Johnsonville final. Kaaren made it through over Paula, however on the other side of the draw, the Naenae team knocked that on the head by beating June. In the final, Naenae (Lisa White, Rozanna Muriwai, Anne Gately and Kennie Critchlow) beat Kaaren, Pam Mulford, Alison Colgate and Fiona Alexander 17-13.
Of the men’s teams, the fours skipped by Brendon Gibson (Ross Gillett, Jason Anquetil, Travis Anquetil); and Nairn McGibbon (Naki Nehemia, Keith Alexander and Brent Shugg), made it through to the semi-finals. At that point both our teams lost to Stokes Valley fours, Brendon to Gary Lawson and Nairn to Seamus Curtin. The men’s event was won by Gary Lawson, Mike Carroll, Steve Brien and John Brien. So – no silverware for Johnsonville but an excellent effort all round.
